WBA Government Affairs

Government Affairs is the key advocacy arm of WBA. This committee monitors legislative and legal issues that affect the building industry at the state capitol. Politically active committee members work to give members a unified, strong voice directly to state lawmakers.  The lobbying agenda is member driven, and the constant presence of staff in the Capitol ensures the impact of legislation on building industry issues is well known. In addition, Government Affairs works to assist members who are active in state and local politics. It also facilitates the vetting process to insure the endorsement of pro-housing candidates. Brad Boycks Chief Lobbyist Director of Government and Political Affairs (608) 242-5151 ext. 16 bboycks@wisbuild.org Brad leads WBA's efforts in the legislature, representing affordable housing. He is responsible for helping the association establish legislative priorities, working with legislators and regulators to get those priorities addressed, and interpreting new or proposed laws.  He staffs the Government Affairs and Building Industry Council.

Jerry Deschane, CAE WBA Executive Vice President WBA Insurance Services CEO WBA Foundation Executive Director (608) 242-5151 ext. 11 jdeschane@wisbuild.org Jerry manages the operations, affairs and resources of WBA in accordance with the mission, vision and strategic plan of the WBA. Jerry is a frequent traveler to local associations to represent WBA and listen to member concerns. Jerry works closely with the WBA senior officers in developing the WBA budget and managing association issues. He also serves as the Executive Director of the Wisconsin Builders Foundation, the charitable arm of WBA and CEO of WBA Insurance Services. Finally, Jerry is WBA’s staff expert on regulatory issues, including environmental regulations, building codes and land use laws. He lobbies state agencies on building codes and regulations.
