BIC does not expressly advocate the election or defeat of a clearly identified candidate. BIC works to keep Wisconsin's economy strong through public education and advocacy efforts. BIC participates in legal efforts to advance important public policy issues affecting jobs and Wisconsin's economy. Goals & Purpose To promote, develop, define, and encourage distribution of information about Wisconsin's economic climate and the importance of job creation in the building industry to the general public of Wisconsin. To foster, encourage, and coordinate the development of public policy involving the building industry that will lead to greater economic opportunity and a higher quality of life for Wisconsin's citizens. To engage in other activities that facilitate public education about the building industry and promote the betterment of the state as a whole. Education Campaigns - The Building Industry Council participates in the following areas: • Media: BIC has hired some of the nation's top advertising and public opinion research firms to develop aggressive media campaigns aimed at furthering its purposes. • Issue Advocacy: Advertising will help the public understand the positions that officials take on issues important to the health of Wisconsin's economy. • Legal Action: BIC receives grants from other organizations to help advocate through the state and federal court system. Building Industry Council, Inc. (BIC) is organized under section 501 (C)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code. In addition to the public input it receives, BIC is administered by a core eight-member board including the Past President and President of the Wisconsin Builders Association. Also, in November of 2006 BIC was expanded to include: BIC LEADERSHIP - One member to represent Brown County HBA, Madison Area BA, Metropolitan BA, and Valley HBA (these four new members are to be appointed by each local to be represented). - Four additional members to represent all other locals and will be nominated by each local. Nominations for these positions will be taken from all locals with 499 or fewer members. An emphasis on a mix of locals from all areas of the state will be considered and the final members will be selected by the BIC President. - Two Executive Officers serve at the discretion of the EOC. One EO position would be from a local of 500 members or more and one EO position would be from a local with fewer than 500 members. The EO members will serve as non- voting members of the BIC.
